BP Custom Clubs was started out of the realization that as a hacker who loved playing golf I could neither afford or justify spending big bucks on golf clubs. However as a golf lover and a typical male I wanted to have the best equipment and was frequently jealous of the other golfers in my league with $500 drivers and $1,000 sets of irons.

That all changed when I met someone playing "King Snake" irons. They were really nice looking like the King Cobras that they imitated and he was a good golfer so I asked where he got those clubs. That afternoon my golf world changed. Clubs as good as the OEM's at a quarter of the price that looked great as well! This was fantastic and I was immediately hooked.

In no time I had myself a set of King Snake Tour II irons with matching graphite shafts. I was hitting the ball 2 clubs farther (I did not yet know about King Cobra's lofting practices) and I was very happy. Being a big guy and a hacker it was inevitable that about a year later I broke one of the graphite shafts. I had it replace for $25 which I though was a little high but I was still happy. I then met another golfer who built clubs as a hobby and found out about where to get components. I looked into the costs of my clubs and found that $25 was a nice little margin for that shaft. When I broke my next graphite shaft (2 in one week) I decided to take a shot at club repair. I had been reading and researching and thought I was ready. It went great and I never went back. To this day the only OEM club I have purchased since that day is a putter.

As I became more educated in the art of club making I learned the pitfalls of knock-off clubs (see my Knock Off Information) with a couple of bad experiences and slowly leaned away from that arena and found my way to the really good component companies.

After years of building clubs for friends, neighbors, and associates and still having as much fun doing so as when I first fixed my own iron I decided to give selling to a larger audience on the internet a shot.

To you my potential customer I just want you to know I do this because I love doing it. I stand by my work (as an engineer I am usually obsessive about getting things right) and I want you to enjoy playing golf with great clubs that did not drive you into bankruptcy.

Brian Purcell (aka BP)
