Component Golf Clubs BP's Custom Golf Clubs sells both component and custom fit clubs. The difference is that the component clubs aim to save you money over the off the shelf store bought clubs. Custom fit clubs are made from the same components but are tailored to your game. I guess the first fallacy to address is that component golf clubs are by default "knock-off" golf clubs. While "knock-offs" are usually a component club there are many quality component golf manufacturers out there who do their own design, testing, and engineering work to bring you high quality original products at a reasonable price. These are the companies we do business with and whose products we offer to make for you on this site. The second fallacy is that component clubs are not as good as the OEM clubs (OEM being Callaway, Ping, Taylor Made, etc.) because they do not cost as much. Nothing could be further from the truth! Much of the cost built into the OEM products is to support their marketing budget. All the advertisements you see on TV and the players on tour that they sponsor to play their products cost a lot of money. That money comes from golfers like you who buy their products based on what their sponsored players do with that equipment and the claims they make on TV. You can't fault them for their marketing tactics because it certainly has worked well for them but don't be fooled into thinking that they are the only source of quality golf clubs. The only component manufacturer that does any sponsorship is Golfsmith and they only sponsor a couple of lesser know touring pro's. The component companies have great products that they deliver at a substantial savings not because they are inferior products but because you are only paying for the club, not the marketing budget. When I first started building clubs I made myself a driver that cost me $65 in components and would routinely match or out drive my playing partners who had their $400 and $500 drivers. What a fantastic feeling! When asked about it I simply responded that it is not the components of the club that truly matter but how they are assembled to fit your swing. It's not that OEM clubs suck, because they do not, on the contrary they are normally very high quality components that are well matched to each other but heads, shafts, and grips are all usually made by the same companies whether you know it or not so why pay OEM prices for the same equipment? Whether you want to get custom fitted or not, buying component clubs gives you a wide selection for styles to choose from and high quality good looking club that you can be proud to take on the course. Of course after a round of taking your friends to school and watching their jaws hit the ground when you explain that your component set of clubs that only cost a fraction of their XYZ brand clubs isn't bad either.
